Dr. Melchor Reyes “Mel” Gutierrez, son of Rufus and Frances (Mendez) Gutierrez, was born January 6, 1930 in Belefonte, Kansas. He passed away at 1:23 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2013 in the Mercy Hospital Springfield.
Mel was a retired professor, a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea, and member of the Marshfield United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Frances (Mendez) Gutierrez; two brothers, Bart Jaurigui and Christopher Gutierrez (who lost his life in Vietnam); one sister, Elsie; and his infant son, Timothy Saint Gutierrez.
Survivors include four children, Stephanie Gutierrez Dodrill and her husband Mark, Barcelona, Spain, Dr. Anthony Christian Gutierrez and his wife Kathi, Lee’s Summit, MO; Linda Gutierrez Revolinsky and her husband Richard, Virginia Beach, VA; Leslie Gutierrez Thomas and her husband Craig, Marshfield, MO; nine grandchildren, Crystina Dodrill, Alex Dodrill, Jennifer Dodrill, Michelle Gutierrez, Andrew Gutierrez and his wife Julie, William Thomas and his wife Allannah, Tyler Thomas, Charlie Thomas and Mollie Thomas; and one great-grandchild, Elisa Dodrill; six brothers, Johnny, Paul, Jesse, Rufus, Joe and Tony Gutierrez; and four sisters, Frances Dean, Sally Matyear, Stella Leon and Paula Gutierrez.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in the Marshfield United Methodist Church, under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Youth for Christ Spain, Dignity Liberia, Choices Pregnancy Center-Marshfield, or the Marshfield United Methodist Church ARK program in care of Fraker Funeral Home, P.O.
