Aneta L. Whitehurst, daughter of Eanor Manuel Shumate and Amanda Gertrude (Thomas) Shumate, was born May 7, 1927 near Marshfield. She passed away at 8:08 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 in the Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, at the age of 88.
Aneta taught in Webster County rural schools before joining the Marshfield School System. She retired after a number of years as a teachers’ aide. She was a member of the Marshfield United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Max; one brother, Richard Shumate; and one sister, Charlene Hubbard.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Ann and Spencer Ellis, Monett, and Sue and Larry King, Buffalo; two grandchildren, Sara Ann Bailey Swope and her husband Tyler, Monett, and Lara Sue Jewell, Springfield; one great-grandson, Eli Scott Swope; two sisters, Doris Pryor, Nixa, and Donna Schumate, Springfield; two brothers, Max Schumate and Derald Schumate, both of Springfield.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in the Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield. Interment will follow in the Marshfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-1:00 Wednesday in the funeral home.
