Alma Onetha (Wortham) Gillam, 89, of Marshfield, passed away April 23, 2014.
She was born on Aug. 26, 1924, in Wortham, Mo., to the late Lexie Raymond and Luenettie (Price) Wortham. She was joined in marriage to Paul Laverne Gillam in 1942. She was blessed with a wonderful marriage of 62 years.
Mrs. Gillam was a 1942 graduate of Frankclay High School, where she played softball and volleyball.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her savior as a teenager.
The Gillams moved to Salem in 1948, where her husband worked for Roberts-Judson Lumber Co., and she worked in the accounting department at the Mercury dealership for many years. She was a member of the Monday Civics Club and secretary of the PTA. They were members of First Christian Church of Salem, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, president of the Mary-Martha Circle and youth group leader, and sang in the choir.
The Gillams moved to Marshfield in 1963 where they owned and operated Gillam Lumber Company, On the Spur, for over 25 years.
They were active in the Marshfield Christian Church, and later Hillside Christian Church (formerly Washington Street Christian Church). She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary while her husband was active in the Gideons, and was a RotaryAnn while her husband was involved with the Rotary Club.
Mrs. Gillam was a wonderful cook and enjoyed her gift of hospitality. She also enjoyed needlework, playing the piano, and listening to music. The Gaither Gospel Hour was one of her favorite programs. Her greatest delight was when her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, great-great-grandkids and other relatives came for big family get-togethers or just dropped in to visit.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gillam was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 2004; five sisters, Jessie (Alfred) White, Mary Goforth Nelson, Norma Ruth (Cletis) Skiles, Lea Ola Wortham and Annabelle (Obie) Means; three brothers, Marion Wortham, Frances (Frank) Wortham and Robert Wortham; five brothers-in-law; and five sisters-in-law, including Mrs. Glenwood (Virginia) Gillam and Mrs. Leon (Pauline) Gillam.
