img048

Marjorie Nadine Dickerson, was born June 28, 1924 in Kansas City, Mo to George and Abby Taylor. She departed this life on September 9, 2014 at 8:10 a.m.

She married Elmer Dickerson in 1944, a marriage lasting over 60 years until his death in 2004. Three children were born of this marriage, Donald, who preceded her in death, Marjorie Ann and Robert, also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and one brother, Donald Taylor of Marion Ill.

Marjorie’s early years were spent in Springfield, Mo., later the family moved to the country where she attended  Pleasant Hope High School, graduating with honors at the age of 17.

Marjorie wanted to play piano and was given traditional lessons. Boredom ended the lessons, she wanted to play faster  tunes and she did, by ear. Also as a teenager she loved to dance, she could dance for hours and hours,  jitterbugging was her specialty.

Variety was found in many areas of her life, like the large selection of LP’s she played on her stereo, one day the choice would be opera, another day it would be Jim Reeves county tunes or her beloved gospel albums.

An avid reader, once again she sought out variety of all types, one of her favorite authors was Pearl S. Buck, seeking a variety continued on to the many kinds of ice cream she always had on hand, every flavor you could think of, but never vanilla, too plain for her taste.

Marjorie had a sense of humor, she liked to wrap wedding gifts in unusual wrappings of her own making, but what was found inside one of those gifts topped them all, when she gave her ‘fireman” brother a dalmation dog with a fire hydrant.

All of her life she enjoyed to sing and found her calling singing in the church choir as well as in trio’s and duets, bur perhaps her greatest talent was that she was a Sunday school teacher for over 30 years.

She was a fantastic cook. Her chocolate pies,  made from scratch from an old family recipe, was a big favorite. She made it even better, topped with a big dollop of homemade whipped cream.

And the jewelry, let’s not forget the jewelry, Marjorie loved it all, shiny, bright and more the better.

Mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend.  A very talented person gone from our sight, but forever with us.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014 in the Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Elkland. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
