![Geraldine Richerson]()
Geraldine (Granny) Richerson was born on September 1, 1923 in Polk County, Missouri and departed this life on June 18, 2015 in Cox South Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, following a brief illness. She was 91. She was the second child born to C. D. and Alta Fern (Noblitt) Cloyed.
Geraldine is survived by two sons, Bruce (Claudia) Willis, Fair Grove, and Max (Cheryl) Willis, Springfield, five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, one sister, Hildreth Brackett, Springfield, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, husbands Jim Willis and Eugene Richerson, a daughter, Nyoka, and granddaughter, Laura Beach, three brothers, Frances, Linford and Stanley Cloyed, and three sisters, Evelyn Israel, Shirley Eli, and Gwendolyn Cloyed.
Geraldine was a member of the Community Southern Baptist Church in Fair Grove.
Her working career included serving as a cook at Fair Grove Schools, a clerk at the Fair Grove MFA Grocery, Royal McBee Typewriter Manufacturing Plant, and she retired from Kraft Foods in 1985 after 15 years of service.
In her youth and high school years she was considered a good basketball and softball player. She continued as a fan throughout her life watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren compete in sports and also watching baseball, basketball, and other sports on television. She was known to occasionally shoot a few hoops with her granddaughter when she was in her 70’s. She was especially fond of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Geraldine was a strong, independent, and hard working woman with a huge heart. She was a caregiver to her elderly parents as their health declined, and the same for two of her sisters. She also cared for her husband, Eugene, who was bedfast the last three years of his life. When her daughter’s health began declining she assisted with the care of her great-grandchildren and paid daily visits to her daughter in the hospital.
She was an excellent cook noted for her delicious cakes and pies. It was no problem for her to “whip up” a meal for her family or for a gathering of 30 or more.
She lived independently until a few weeks prior to her illness. She had great neighbors who visited often or would assist her with anything and she cherished her many friends in the Fair Grove area where she had resided since 1942.
During her brief stay in Cox South Hospital she received excellent and compassionate care from the staff, doctors and nurses in the Emergency Room, 8th Floor East, and the 5th Floor CCU. The family is very appreciative to all of them.
Graveside services will be at Mission Chapel Cemetery, Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 at the funeral home.
